I saw an old friend of mine and came up to speak with him. He smiled and went the other way. "I'm sorry, but I've got to go online," he called to me, running next door. I looked into the next room for his computer or cell phone but did not see one.

Instead, I saw him put in his hearing aids and look at me again, "You were saying?"
