I would take my family to Michoacan Mexico to visit my husbands mother.  He
gets homesick about this time every year and I feel sorry for him.  We
don't have a lot of money (just enough to take care of our children and
ourselves), so he can't go and visit whenever he wants.  I have never met
my mother-in-law  in person, but we have spoken and written to each other.
He has not seen her in 7 years, and he is the baby of 11 children, so she
misses him the most!  Maybe someday.

It is quite funny how and email can travel from its original location
(where ever that might be!).  A question was once posed to people on the
discussion list asking what they would do if given $500.  I again have a
similar question.  If you had a week(being generous) to do what ever you
want.  What would you do?  Assume that you don't have to worry about
expenses but try to be realistic.
