For better or for worse, that flexibility is a feature of our constitution
that has allowed it to stand for 200+ years -- the ability to bend with the
times, but at a slower pace.  No matter how liberal the specific justices
are when they join the bench, since they are lifetime appointees, they tend
to be less liberal than the electorate.
