One of the problems with most denominations is too many axioms. Jesus
said that all of the law and the prophets hang on two simple
commandments: love God with all your heart, mind and soul, and love your
neighbor as yourself. Someone who adheres to these two commandments could
therefore call themselves a Christian, whether or not they believe that a
Baptism done by sprinkling water in the Sahara desert (where water for
immersion is scarce) does or does not save the soul.

On the other hand, there is always some Christian somewhere who has added
some ritual or affirmation and insists those who don't follow it are
lost.
