[GCFL-discuss] DRESSING UP OR WEARING ANY OLD THING

Your exactly right Jeff. Posh, if we took your lead and your stance you
just slapped a brand new ministry here in Vancouver, Washington right in
the face. If you were to walk in in formal clothing you wouldn't fit in.
YOU would be the SQUARE peg in the round hole. If we imposed "YOU MUST
WEAR FORMAL CLOTHING TO CHURCH" you just ruined my bestfriend's ministry
in inner city Chicago: Englewood (It's apart of the ghetos). He'd be
laughed right out of the ghetos and wouldn't do a wink of good for God if
he meet them where they are. These kids have no meaning of formal clothes
besides what little they see on TV or in magazines. That to them is the
farthest from their minds. I think you'll find clothing only exists
because of the original sin. Clothing wasn't in "the plan". When Adam and
Eve were pure (sinless) walking with God, they knew nothing of the
meaning of nakedness. When they ate the fruit, their eyes were opened and
their nakedness revealed: Thus the beginning of clothing.

God bless you,
Lance
John 8:32 "You will know the Truth and the Truth will set you free."

          Posh,
MY dad would probably agree with you... I however have my own personal
opinion. I kind gotta agree with lance cause I mean you can't base your
Salvation on how you dress. However I agree it is good to wear
respectable clothing to church. I mean I wear jeans some but when I do
they are never faded & are almost always new or very close to it. I
always try to wear my best whether it is Khakis or jeans or corduroys. I
think there is a happy medium. I mean I think if its immodest you
shouldn't wear it otherwise I believe it is how you are convicted by
God. ( I BELIEVE If you have a close walk with him you will be able to
know what he wants you to do) I mean for one person it may not be an
issue & for the next they might feel led to dress up. I mean for a lot of
people it is an issue to dress up & the next one doesn't feel a twinge
of guilt wearing shorts to church. I agree with lance on the part about
if clothing totally controls your worship that you could turn people
away. I also think it has a lot to with family customs as well as how you
are raised ( MEANING THAT CAN REALLY INFLUENCE HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT THE
SUBJECT)

If you look across the majority of churches across America you
will see the formality of it all dwindle away. Look back a hundred years
ago or more when people dressed up they looked a lot like the Amish do (
PA Dutch) but just because the way society dresses slowly changes
doesn't mean that we can't still be sincere in our worship however we are
dressed. I BELIEVE IT IS SOMETHING PERSONAL EACH PERSON NEEDS TO DECIDE
FOR THEMSELVES & not try to push there opinion on anyone else because as
long as it is modest Biblically it isn't a right or wrong issue( I am
telling this to myself too :) Hope you all can make sense out of this. I
probably should have waited till tomorrow to write this ( its late so I
am really tired) but I have the time now even though I need to go to bed
:)

I think you miss the point Posh. You are right as far as you go. We
should dress our best. The real point is, it is between the worshiper
and the Lord. It is not our place to judge. And we shouldn't keep
anyone out for the way they dress. All are children of God. Maybe
those are his best clothes.

Hi All,
I've noticed some stories or jokes pertaining to clothing in "church".
Some have said, "God doesn't care as long as your there".
I say, "How could you say that???"
When you go on a job interview, do you say" My future employer will
understand. As long as I show up!" NO-------
That doesn't get you anywhere. We have to be our finest and well groomed.
We are speaking of being in god's house of worship. Would you go to the
Presidents home and wear tshirts and jeans, saying he will understand???
No he won't. There is respect that is lacking in peoples hearts for PURE
worship. Wearing jeans, SHORT skirts, and any old thing is not showing
CLEAN worship.
Certain things people think are just that....what people think. What
about what god thinks? Would you really NOT care what kind of concern you
put on cleanliness????

Hey, how come the best jokes are in the discussion, not in the regular
GCFL?
Siarlys
(I think the regular column had a similar one about a woman in rags who
stank, who eventually was able to tell the pastor "Jesus said I don't
have to keep going to your church, he hasn't ever been able to get into
it either."
And of course, there is the old version about the man with a dark
complexion who was thrown out of a church whose ushers were proud of the
pale skin of their congregation. God told him "You did better than me.
I've been trying to get into that church for years, and never could get
as close as the front door.")
They all teach the same lesson, don't they. And they're all funny.
