Come on guys, don't you have anything better to discuss about church than what you wear. How about discussing how you approach those who enter your church with you. Do you smile, do you greet them, do you ask their name, do you give hugs when you know they are needed, do you just tell the person you are praying for them? It is all well and good to wear your best to church, unless you would make others uncomfortable. But, I think you all are missing the point of church. It is to fellowship and worship and praise and glorify God. You cannot glorify God if you are looking to see what others are wearing and criticizing them in your mind because you do not think that they are honoring God. Remember judging is not what we are to be doing when we enter God's house, or any other time for that matter. Loving and worshipping and sharing these attitudes of love with others is where it is at.
I now attend a church where most are casual in their wear, but others chose to wear more formal dress as we did when I was a child. I don't care what they wear, I do care how they worship with me and show their love of God through their actions. Clothing may be important, but it surely is not so important that we need to argue about it. Christ didn't dress like the rich of his time. He dressed as the carpenters would dress. He never said a word about dress, but he said plenty about attitude.
Blessings to all of you.

I am not saying that a person needs to wear what they don't have. If they don't have a dress to wear, I would understand. But I would think in time they would want to get one. You can get nice ones at garage sales for like 1 buck!!

Maybe your thinking of what god thinks is your opinon. Do you honestly believe that if you walked into a 'church' where everyone wore what they want, you would feel like they worship him with a full heart? Because it sounds half hearted to me.

maybe you think that because you are not hearing directly FROM god..."thou shall not have to wear nice clothes when in my presence." That you really don't have too? It is your heart condition that shows what you are on the outside.

Time and unforseen occurance befall us all and I can understand if you CAN NOT find proper clothes to wear. As long as it is not all the time. Would you want someone coming into your work like that everytime??? It is love for our neighbors that drive us to please god and them. Do you do that by saying, "it doesn't matter what you wear?"

COME ON------Love for god does not end when you step out of 'church' does it??? Your bodies are sacrafices to god. Would you not WANT to honor him at all times by looking your best when you come to his place of worship?

I beg to differ Posh. God doesn't care about clothing. He cares about the condition of our heart. Our intentions in our worship of Him is most important. Yes we as humans justify clothing as showing repsect, but as long as you claim you're not showing God respect because of the clothing your wearing, the moment we lose all those Christians that "come as they are".

If you go about telling people it's the clothing you wear that impacts God, I gotta tell ya, you missed the boat. We will turn away people who NEED Christ if people take the stand that clothing controls your worship of God. And I gotta tell ya, clothing don't mean a thing without your heart being on Christ.

I've seen bikers, Goths, skaters, preps, etc all come and meet at the foot of the Cross. Their clothing doesn't fit your definition of Church clothes, but let me tell you, their heart of worship is amazing. And THAT my friend is most important: humbling yourself before God AS YOU ARE. Not as someone has told you you need to be.

God bless you,
Lance
All the people, lemme hear you give a holler:

Hi All,
I've noticed some stories or jokes pertaining to clothing in "church".

Some have said, "God doesn't care as long as your there".

I say, "How could you say that???"

When you go on a job interview, do you say" My future employer will understand. As long as I show up!" NO-------
That doesn't get you anywhere. We have to be our finest and well groomed. We are speaking of being in god's house of worship. Would you go to the Presidents home and wear tshirts and jeans, saying he will understand???

No he won't. There is respect t hat is lacking in peoples hearts for PURE worship. Wearing jeans, SHORT skirts, and any old thing is not showing CLEAN worship.

Certain things people think are just that....what people think. What about what god thinks? Would you really NOT care what kind of concern you put on cleanliness????

Posh
