Rev. Thomas Starr King, an early Unitarian missionary to California,
explained that
Unitarians believe God is too good to damn people,
Universalists believe people are too good to be damned by God.
Its hard to remember that Unitarians were originally known as Unitarian
Baptists,
because that was their roots -- they simply didn't believe God is a
Trinity.
A woman I once worked with who was raised Unitarian told of a large
community of Unitarians in Texas who explained they had settled near a
modest sized hill where they believed the prophet Moshe had come down
bearing stone tablets inscribed with the Ten Suggestions.
