I have seen those shows. PBS has done a number of those set in different time periods. I saw one from the 1900's one from the expansion era and I know that there are more. They are pretty interesting to watch.

in the past. I think that it was on PBS. Life was not easy for them. They
didn't hunt but they had to plant crops to survive. They didn't do well at
all and if it was real they wouldn't have made it with out help from the
Indians. People born back then wouldn't know different but life was hard and
work for the common man was continuous, all day. On average they didn't live
as long and they lost a lot of babies through illness and poor diet.
