Dave,

I did see a show along those lines, except I think it was recreating 19th
century rural life rather than 1628. That was a period of intense labor.

What is interesting is that in the most primitive times, before
agriculture, the relatively small number of people living on earth worked
far less hours. There is something about improved technology that gives
us more options, but keeps us working much harder for what we get, which
for some people is very little, and for others quite a lot. Our very
remote ancestors had a lot more leisure time than we do. Our more recent
ancestors worked much harder than we do for less. Today, most people have
very little leisure, working to pay for all the options we have.
