Dear Rev. Ev,

Yes, its all straight from the book, its all true, and its all good.

But its not all.

Jesus told a man who asked how he could inherit eternal life that he
lacked only one thing: "sell all you have, and distribute it to the poor,
and you shall have treasure in heaven, and come follow me." And we all
know about the camel and the needle.

I referred before to Matthew 25:31, to the end of the chapter. I'm not
going to transcribe it, everyone can find it in their own Bible. It is
the most explicit scriptural reference to separating the sheep from the
goats, and it offers the reward "prepared for you from the foundation of
the world" to those from ALL nations who "inasmuch as you did it unto the
least of these my brethren, you did it unto me."

If you find that in contradiction to John 14, just accept that the ways
of God are not our ways. If you would bend the meaning of that half
chapter TO your understanding of John 14, remember that I may bend John
14 according to what I find in Matthew.

Also, "I am come a light unto the world, that whosoever believes in me
should not abide in darkness, and if any man hear my words and believe
not, I judge him not, for I came not to judge the world but to save the
world." John 12: 46-47.

Jesus called on those who follow him to "Let your light so shine before
men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is
in heaven." Matthew 5: 16. (That might be a good verse to settle the
question of good works also).

Let's let God do it his way, and not try to limit the ways that God may
choose to call one person or another to himself.

Siarlys
