A separate note to the anonymous person who quoted from Ephesians
4:17-24:
The Ephesians who Paul was writing to were Greeks. Greek culture was in a
state of decay. Most of the more intellectual or philosophical Greeks had
abandoned faith in the primitive gods of Olympus (Zeus, Hera, Aphrodite,
Athena, Apollo, etc.), but worship in their temples went on for fun,
pleasure and money. Conquest by Rome had stunted any new growth in Greek
culture. Without much purpose for anything, people tended toward
hedonistic pleasures, as Paul describes. A small number had converted to
the Jewish faith, influenced by Jews who had settled in the city. But
most had not embraced faith in an omnipresent one and only God (who could
not be represented by an idol) until Paul brought the Gospel of Jesus
Christ. That is what Paul was addressing in the cited passage.
