There is one basic problem with any type of tax reform, no matter how
worthwhile and achievable its goals.  Laws are made by politicians.
Politicians have special interests.  By the time any such bill came out of
congress as a law, it would bear little resemblance to the noble notion that
spawned it.  It is unlikely to be better than what we have now.  The chances
are that it would be much worse and more complicated than ever.

Better the devil you know.

This does not imply that I think the proposal on the table is worthwhile and
achievable; I do not.  But that's beside the point.
