Jeanene, Siarlys & Rev Ev

As Siarlys predicted, I would have something to say about Goy/Goyim.

I don't know what you saw, Rev Ev, in the dictionary, but merriam webster on
line says it means a non-Jew, or gentile, sometimes disparaging.

It comes from the Hebrew word "Goy", which means "nation". Whether or not
it is disparaging depends on the context and tone of voice. In Yiddish,
any word can have multiple connotations depending on the inflection.

Some years ago there was a big flap about someone calling someone else a
"shvartze" on the radio, the latter was very insulted. The question was,
was it disparaging or not? The word itself simply means "black". But
everything depends on the inflection and context.

Goyim is the plural.

By the way, I agree with Jeanene that the word "guy" has evolved to mean
girls as well.

Jeanene,

I had never heard the term "goy or goyim" before....looked it up and from
what I learned, it is not a complimentary term. (I must have missed
something in the posts -- why did you refer to yourself as a goy?) Just
curious....

God bless you abundantly today and always!

"Rev. Ev"
