Carla, while you have one of the main vacillations of human character
pegged perfectly, I can't refrain from noting that our history is also
notorious for using institutions of faith to feed pride, or inflict fear.
To have a childlike faith can preserve us from these perversions of
truth, or it can make us prey to the unscrupulous.
