Its time for my annual reminder of an important anniversary, the day more
Americans were killed than any other day in our nation's history. The
total casualties were over 6000, about half of them serving in the United
States Army, the other half participating in Robert E. Lee's Attack on
American.

I refer of course to the Battle of Antietem, September 17, 1862, which
laid the military foundation for the Emancipation Proclamation.

Siarlys

P.S. No slur intended on General Lee, who was more capable than all the
generals then serving in the Army of the Potomac combined. If he had the
quantity of manpower and munitions at his disposal that the federal
government had, he would no doubt have won the war. As it was, he was no
doubt God's instrument for prolonging the war, until the northern
politicians were sufficiently frustrated and angry to actually abolish
slavery, the last thing on their minds when the war began. (Cr Ref.
Abraham Lincoln's Second Inaugural Address).
