Jeanene, you might guess from this headline that I was going to ask you
about the new presiding bishop of the Episcopalian Church in the USA,
which stopped calling itself the Anglican Church after the American
Revolution, since no institution overly obedient to English authorities
was a patriotic thing to belong to at that time.

I am quite certain, without asking, that you do not approve of this
person, since she is sympathetic to ordaining more bishops with the
tastes and preferences of Bishop Robinson from New Hampshire.

>From your perspective, is it a problem that she is a woman?

I don't know how Episcopalians got to be such liberals (some of them). At
one time, they were known as "The Republican Party at Prayer." If one
goes back 250 years, Anglican clergy rode shotgun with sheriffs to break
up illegal Baptist revivals and summarily whip the evangelist for
preaching without a license. (This was before the American Revolution,
and therefore before "freedom of religion" was a lawful consideration. We
darn well had Established Churches in most colonies, to which Baptists
and Quakers and Methodists paid their tithes, plus fines for not
attending, or went to jail. Also Catholics, when the heathen Papists were
allowed to settle over here at all.)

What do I mean "we"? Three fourths of my family tree wasn't even on this
side of the Atlantic yet.

Anyway, you demonstrate all the self-confidence and authority to be an
effective bishop. Would the portion of the church you adhere to allow you
to do so?

Siarlys
