[GCFL-discuss] Fwd: Joke comments feature

Discussion of the Good, Clean Funnies List gcfl-discuss at gcfl.net

Hey, here is something to discuss that is actually related to GCFL! Anyone
have any thoughts?

---------- Forwarded message ----------

I'm thinking about adding the ability for members to post comments about
funnies online.

Obviously this will need to be moderated by people that I can trust to keep
the garbage out.

I would like to propose that one or more of the editors branch off to do
this job, along with other volunteers as needed. Unlike the editor's list,
where you know you will only have to look at on average one funny per week
day, the comment volume will vary, but it will most definitely be more than
one a day.

On the other hand, no editing will be required. You simply read the
comments and decide if they are clean enough to allow on the web page.

I'm also taking suggestions as to HOW this all will work... I know most of
you aren't web designers, but maybe you have ideas that might help.

I figure I can either use email or a web page to do it. Email might be
easier since there is no logging in, etc. I send you a comment, and you
reply with a ya or nah. I get the reply and I know it was from you
(usually).

On the other hand, if you are like me and get thousands of emails a day, you
might like the web page idea. You'd login with a username/password, then go
through the comment queue.

Eventually someone (or perhaps several people) with the time and my trust
will head this up (kinda like Cathy has done for the editors), but that's
later when the whole system stabilizes, also assuming this whole thing
doesn't flop.

Another direction I could go is to do it like http://slashdot.org does it.
However, this would require many more people with logins and it's more
complex.

Any thoughts on any of this?

Thanks,
John
