[GCFL-discuss] [GCFL.net] Florida Court Sets Atheist Holy Day

Not only is this modestly funny, but it is redundant. GCFL has run a
similar story at least once already.

I should note that the case would have been dismissed anyway, if there
was such a case, because the First Amendment does not guarantee that
every religion will have equal access to holidays. It merely says that
the government shall not establish any religion. If an atheist wants a
holiday, and does not want it set for April 1, then he can declare one,
and in the free exercise of his religion, observe it. (Nobody else has
to). He can even ask his employer to make reasonable accommodation of his
observance.

Or maybe not. If he doesn't believe, then he has nothing to celebrate,
but that's nobody else's fault. Contrary to popular belief, which
manifests itself in many ways from many viewpoints, the Constitution does
not guarantee that life will always be fair to everyone. It just
regulates what powers the federal and state governments may exercise.
