Actually the problem with the fish arose because Jonah didn't go preach when he was told to. He tried to run from G-d. Of course G-d had no problem finding him. It was because of his disobedience that he was thrown into the water and he was swallowed by a fish. Which got him to praying. G-d saved him from the fish and he got a second chance to preach, which he did and the people he preached to repented of there wicked ways and G-d didn't destroy them. It is a fascinating Old Testament story.

The sunday school teacher told the class that Jonah was told by the Lord to go on a 'mission' to preach and that's why he decided to be a missionary. I guess I didn't explain that well enough. Sorry. Frank

Am I missing something? I presume the "swallowed by a big fish" is a reference to Jonah, but why would he think that he has to be a missionary to avoid that fate?

I was talking to one of my neighbors yesterday and he told the following:
He was talking with his grandson who lives in Conn. and asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up. The boy replied that he thought he wanted to be a missionary. Surprised because the boy is only 5, the man told his grandson that was wonderful, but, asked why he wanted to be a missionary. The boy replied, "Because, I don't want to be swallowed by a big fish!"
    Cracked us both up.
