On an RV trip to Alaska, we stopped in Homer. I visited the local museum and read an interesting book.

A local man named Iad had a supernatural relationship with the ocean and fish. He swam with them, communicated with them and correctly predicted ocean tides and currents.

One day he became deathly sick and went into a coma. The next day the ocean tides completely stopped and the whales and fish all came to the ocean next to his house. The tides stopped and fish stayed until he came out of the coma. The minute he awoke the tides and fish went back to normal.

The book was called "Homer's Ill Iad and the Odd Sea."
