David Frost (whose father was an Anglican vicar) once claimed on an interview that his father was delivering a sermon, based on a well-known parable from the New Testament (Matthew 25:1-13) about two groups of girls who had been invited to attend a wedding, one of which had apparently forgotten the oil for their lamps, fell asleep, and missed the whole thing.

His peroration ran: "So I ask you: Will you attend the wedding feast, with the wise virgins, or will you sleep with the foolish virgins?"

One the way back from the church after the service, Mr Frost reported he was quiet until they reached his house, when he asked: "Tell me, do I often say things like that?"

Received from Siarlys.
